about

GRANDPARENTAL WARNING: SAUCY LYRICS

Despite the snappy photos (by Baltimore’s Kel Millione), these are strictly basement tapes of some odd little songs we’ve dug out of cellars and flea markets, purely self-indulgent self-entertainment. We used to sing them around the house until our neighbors suggested we take them on the road. Since then we’ve inflicted them on several innocent people in concert situations. And now on you.

Vine-Glo was a condensed grape drink people used to buy and let ferment for a couple of months in the days of the last century when non-sacramental alcohol was illegal. “Making your own” was a shameful practice in which your mother, grandmother or great-grandmother probably indulged. Shocking.

“Rannygazoo” is one of those words we encountered in one Wodehouse novel or another. It describes shenanigans, hoo-ha or other calamitous goings-on. We encourage you to pepper your casual conversation with it, as it is fun to say and worth resurrecting. (Next year’s Bring Back the Slang Project: “Spondulix.”)
